Aichi Medical Interpretation System
Aichi Medical Interpretation System provides services such as medical interpretation, telephone interpretation, and text translation at the request of medical institutions so that foreign residents in Aichi Prefecture can get medical care with peace of mind. The program is run by Aichi Medical Interpretation System Promotion Association and was jointly established in February 2012 with medical institutions and universities in 54 municipalities throughout the prefecture.

  • Dispatching of Interpreters

    We dispatch medical interpreters to hospitals.

Q1. Do I have to pay any fees?

Generally, our services have fees. (e.g., the cost for dispatching an interpreter ranges from 1,500 to 2,500 yen for 2 hours, depending on the job).

Q2. When can I use these services?

Our services are available when medical institutions deem them necessary. Patients cannot request interpreters to be dispatched to administration offices.

Aichi Medical Interpretation System is recruiting and training medical interpreters. We also provide follow-up training for people who have already been certified as a medical interpreter in our system.

If you would like to apply

Recruitment of new interpreters

We post a notification of the languages we are recruiting for every year around April.

Training process for interpreters

We train medical interpreters every year in cooperation with universities in the prefecture.
You will need to pass language tests (written and interview), then take 36 hours of training over 7 days and pass a certification test.
Throughout the training, you will learn the knowledge and mindset necessary to become a medical interpreter, and improve your interpretation skills through role-play and other exercises.

If you are already certified

Follow-up training

In the 2023 fiscal year, we plan to conduct training such as knowledge reviews and role-play. We will make an announcement when the details have been decided.

For applicants and people already certified

Compensation

  • ・For dispatches to medical institutions, you will receive between 3,000 and 5,000 yen for every 2 hours depending on the job, plus transportation expenses (including withholding tax).
  • ・For document translations, you will receive 3,000 yen for each single-sided A4-size sheet.
  • ・This is not for a full-time position as an interpreter. Please note that you cannot make a living with this system.

Q1. What is the dispatch process?

①The secretariat will email all interpreters in the relevant language when they receive a request from a medical institution to dispatch an interpreter.
②Interpreters will apply based on the information in the email, such as the date, time, destination, and the medical examination department.
③The secretariat will select the interpreter that best meets the requirements based on experience and location.
④The interpreter will go to the requested medical institution on the scheduled date and time.

Q2. I would like to discuss problems with a client.

Please contact the management office. No problem is too small.

Q3. Is it necessary to register for the invoice system?

We do not ask interpreters to register as eligible invoice providers.
